Why Buy When You Can DIY?

Why do we DIY? We do it often times out of necessity or an opportunity to use our brains. More than anything it is a statement of personal freedom.  In this time of economic uncertainty, this era has been pegged “the Age of the DIYers.” YouTube and Google have become professors to a new generation seeking to experience some of the luxuries of life without spending a lot of money.

DIY home theater 2

Setting up a home theater space is no exception. You don’t need to pay an installer to set up an awesome, professional-looking entertainment space.  Break out the measuring tape and the rusty hammer and use your own ingenuity to convert your empty space into a media palace.

Here at Projector People, we offer a wide range of projectors, screens and accessories to fit diverse setups and budgets, and can even create a custom bundle just for you.

In addition to all of our educational resources (Did you know we have a dedicated Resources section?), there are many sites to help you choose the correct projection unit, screen and sound system for your unique needs.  One of our favorite resource sites is Projector Central. Projector Central is a projector haven with tons of helpful information, in-depth reviews and comments from people who have seen the projectors in action.

Plus our team of projector experts is here to answer all of your home theater questions. Our experts have years of experience (seriously – the least-tenured member of our team just celebrated her 13th anniversary with us!) and love to help guide our customers through the research, buying and installation process.

Now your room is your canvas to build the perfect bachelor haven, family room or couples nest based on your desires and your budget. What’s stopping you from having the home theater you’ve been dreaming of?

Coming Soon: Epson 5030 Firmware Update

Exciting news for Epson projector owners: new firmware updates are coming soon to noticeably improve the image quality and performance capabilities of several of its award-winning home theater solutions! Epson 5030ub If you own the Epson PowerLite Pro Cinema 6030UB, PowerLite Home Cinema 5030UB, PowerLite Home Cinema 5030UBe, or PowerLite Pro Cinema 4030, read on to learn about this update. The firmware update, slated to be released in mid-October, expands Super Resolution technology to include the new Epson Detail Enhancement capabilities for sharp, rich images.  Epson’s Detail Enhancement operates in concert with Super Resolution to enhance brightness differences of the texture and surface of images. How does this work? Epson Super Resolution detects the change in color from the edge of an object to the background color and sharpens or defines the image.  Epson Detail Enhancement uses a similar technique, clarifying the texture and surface appearance of the area within the boundaries of an object. As a result of the firmware update, both video processes work together – one on the edges, the other on the surface area of objects, to increase the fine delicate structure in video images. To update your projector’s firmware, you’ll just need a PC with an internet connection, a USB connection cable and less than five minutes. What The Projector People Are Watching

It’s probably no surprise that we at Projector People LOVE watching movies on the big screen. On most weekend nights you’ll usually find us in our living rooms, home theaters or backyards watching flicks with our friends and families. Projectors aren’t just our job; they’re our passion.

Read on to learn what we’re watching on our big screens right now.

I watched Derrick Brooks being entered into the NFL Hall of Fame. He played on our local team, the Buccaneers. Go Bucs! I’m also watching preseason football. It’s like light beer – not as good as the real thing, but it will do in a pinch.

I also saw a great movie called “Transcendence” With Johnny Depp. It’s a very creepy movie. We had the neighbors over. Seven of us watched it on an eight-foot wide screen with a Panasonic AE8000. NICE!

Recently we’ve been showing our 10-year-old son a lot of the classics.

We’ve watched Top Gun on the projector (it’s like you are the one landing on the carrier!), Terminator and Terminator Two (Arnold is huge!), and Rocky (you feel like you’re in the ring!)

Our son loves the films, and we love spending time with him.

I watched Frozen and the Little Mermaid II last weekend with my granddaughters on the Epson Presenter. I love that it’s an all-in-one projector and is so simple to use. Just plug it in, insert the DVD and press play!

The girls loved hanging out and watching movies with me. They say I have “the fun house!” It’s like being at the movies, but you can pause and get snacks and not miss anything.

I just got hooked on Game of Thrones. It’s a fantastic series to watch on a nine-foot wide screen. I really felt like I was thrown in that time period and that fantasy world. I zipped through all three seasons in less than two months!

Season four just wrapped on HBO so I will start that one soon. The series was so good, I just could not stop watching and was up to 1:00 a.m. on plenty of work nights!! I could have watched it on my 50” TV, but the much larger, crystal-clear image on my projector and the sounds of galloping horses and clanging swords on the surround sound just cannot be beat!

I’ve been playing a lot of video games on my projector lately.

When you’re playing Battlefield 4, FIFA 14 or Madden football on a nine-foot HD screen, it feels like you’re part of the action!

Your turn! What are you watching this week?

Things We Love: Projector Bike

Built in 2010, the Projector Bike is used to tell stories in public spaces, activate unused spaces and provide an accessible platform for artists to show their work in public and show content to an expanded audience, according to the Projector Bike website.

This custom three-wheeled cargo bike includes an Epson 1945W projector, car stereo and speakers, an iPad and a powerful battery.

The mobile nature of the Projector Bike enables engaging images and films to be shown in public places to audiences ranging from a few people at a bus stop to a large crowd at a festival.
