Church Projector Buying Tips

Brighter Is Usually Better

Most sanctuaries opt for at least 5,000 lumens. These bright bad boys can easily provide crystal-clear text and big, bright images and video to crowds of 100 to 150 with no concern over ambient lighting. For sanctuaries that sit 250 or more, we recommend 6,000-lumen projectors.

Optional Lenses Are Awesome!

Most of our church customers choose projectors with available optional lenses. These allow greater placement flexibility. But the projectors are usually installed. They can’t be easily moved to another room or building for events like youth movie nights. No worries. There are plenty of bright portable projectors that you can add to your AV arsenal for very little cost.

Rectangles Are (Usually) Cooler Than Squares

The projector’s aspect ratio determines the shape of the picture, either a square or a rectangle. To future-proof your purchase, we suggest investing in a widescreen projector with a 16:10 or 16:9 aspect ratio. Most churches opt for this shape because it sits higher than the minister’s head and allows for more content to be projected on the wider screen.

Some churches go with the 4:3 square format because they have to fit the image between architectural elements like pillars.

VIDEO: How to Choose a Church Projector

We know how it goes. Your church’s pastor or committee has tasked you with buying a projector for the sanctuary and you don’t know where to even begin.

Don’t worry. We’re here to help.

There are four important stats for you to know before calling one of our experts to help you find the perfect projector for your house of worship.

  • First, the width of your screen or the desired width of your projected image. No guessing. Go get the measuring tape. We can wait.
  • Second, we need to know the distance your projector will be from the screen. Generally the ideal distance is double the width of your screen. For example, if your screen is eight feet wide, your projector should be about 16 feet back from the screen.
  • The third decision you have to make is the aspect ratio of your projected image. The aspect ratio is basically the shape of the picture, either a square or a rectangle. To future-proof your purchase, we suggest investing in a widescreen projector with a 16:10 or 16:9 aspect ratio.
  • Finally, we need to know your budget. Don’t worry. No matter how much or little you have to invest, we have a projector that fits your needs. Call us because we may be able to offer tips regarding your layout and setup. Sometimes moving a mount a few feet closer to the screen can save thousands of dollars.
